0 48

Everest Base Camp Trek is a high-altitude trek of about 5000-5500 meters. So there are requirements of nice raincoats, full fleece jackets, a down jacket, poncho, warm waterproof gloves, sturdy hiking shoes, sleeping bags, water bottles or a bladder, trek poles, personal camp gear, and most importantly physical fitness. The trek poses some of the difficult tasks in terms of hiking in low oxygen levels, crossing streams with difficult terrains, etc. So acclimating yourself to the conditions and withstanding the obstacles is very much needed for this 14-day long trial. You need to learn to push yourself from the time you get tired.

So here are some of the important and interesting tips that you can follow if you were planning to trek to Everest Base Camp.

1. Planning and making a perfect itinerary including acclimatization is important

The Trek is a very long trip so you must plan everything. This will help you to avoid any inconvenience while doing the trek. Planning includes the things needed, booking of the lodges everywhere, and the itinerary itself. If you are planning to go with the travel company BanBanjara then everything would be arranged properly.

2. Pre book all of the places that you are going to stay in the entire trek

It’s better to pre-book all the places that you are going to stay. Because it will not keep any worries in your head while doing the trek and you can enjoy the trek without worrying about the future stay.

3. The slower you go the better chances of you completing the trek.

Pacing heart rates and breathing are crucial. Do not climb more than 400 – 500 meters per day. Do remember that trekking is not a race. It is a marathon that you must consistently do to reach the base camp.

4. Save a pair of socks for the last day of trek to Everest Base Camp from

Lobuche. Most people try to wash their socks while in Namche Bazaar or Debuche but in those cold temperatures, it is highly unlikely that your socks will dry by the next day. Wearing wet socks while trekking to high altitudes is risky and uncomfortable. So make sure you have a pair of socks that are clean and dry.

5. Do not bring too many snacks and food.

There is enough food all along the trek and there are many tea houses in every main spot. So bringing too much food will only increase the load of the bag which will make you tired while trekking. But it is good to take a minimum amount of nuts and bars to refresh you while on the trek.

6. Keep yourself hydrated day in and day out.

Take administered courses of Diamox that will save you from altitude sickness because Everest Base Camp Trek is at an altitude of 5500 meters. Usually, you will get dizzy and fatigued while on the trek. So keep yourself healthy and fit on the trek. Follow simple rules and allocate a rest day after every 600- 900 meters of the trek.

7. Avoid buying water bottles everywhere, instead drink tap water using

purification tablets. Purification tablets are available at every place and you can use them to clean your water now and then. This would save you from spending more money and also protect the environment.

8. Let your guide keep a close look on you when to take the altitude sickness

Tablets. The guide has a good amount of knowledge about the trek and does ask for help and know when you need to take the appropriate tablets. These tablets will ease the sickness due to altitude and low oxygen because of the height.

9. Be careful of what you eat and drink, avoid drinking alcohol, smoking and

Canned food and meat. Diet plays a very important role while on the trek. You cannot compromise your health by consuming spurious drinks. So do eat a healthy diet especially filled with carbohydrates, which are much needed for this trek. Carbohydrates boost your journey and give the much-needed energy while on the trek.

10. Carry enough local currency along the trek. As you move high above the

Altitude, you will see that the prices of even simple goods become costly. Because there is a huge amount of transportation cost involved in bringing those goods to that altitude. And there are no ATMs available. So make sure you have enough liquid local currency with you in the entire trek.
